Miss Mousie was born in September 1998. She had a home, but was turned into the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society where she became a favorite of many of the volunteers.
As Valentine's Day 2012 neared, a local romance author told her husband she wanted to foster a senior cat for her present. She already had two almost 15 year old felines and her almost 18 year old old cat crossed the Rainbow Bridge back in August 2011. Needless to say, senior cats hold a special place in the writer's heart. When she arrived at the cat house at the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society there were two senior cats, Miss Mousie and Crystal, who needed fostering. She couldn't leave one, so she took both home with her to foster.
Happy Valentine's Day x 2!
Her husband took the additional cat in stride as he does each time another four-legged, fur covered kid enters their home, whether briefly or forever. Maybe that should be fur-ever!
Unfortunately, Crystal was ill and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March, but Miss Mousie settled in and decided she'd found the home she'd been waiting for. She took over her own spot on the cat tree and carved out a place on the bed at night. Most importantly, she fell in love, head over heels in love, with her new daddy! Mommy is just another name for servant and the one who sticks icky medicine in her ears each day.
Although Miss Mousie is almost 14 years old, recent blood tests in early August show her to be in good health. But she does have an ear condition called Ceruminous hyperplasia (i.e. polyps in her ears and outside them.) After a recent ear infection that affected both her weight and behavior, her local vet said she needed TECA (total ear canal ablation) surgery. This would rid her of the polyps, and she would no longer be at risk for nasty ear infections. The vet said without the surgery he would recommend humane euthanization due to the pain her ears cause her.
Estimates from a vet specialist/surgeon in Portland, Oregon are $2500 an ear or $5000 total for the TECA surgery.
No one is ready to see Miss Mousie cross the Rainbow Bridge. She loves to sun herself, be brushed and sleep on laps. She might be a senior cat, but she still loves to play and can jump with the best of them! We believe she has many good years ahead of her, ones that will spent in a loving home. The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society has approved efforts to raise the money for the TECA surgery. They have set up Miss Mousie with her own PayPal account!
$5000 is a lot of money, especially for a senior cat, but when you break it down that's only $2 from 2500 cat lovers or $5 from 1000 cat lovers. When you look at like that, raising that much money doesn't seem so impossible.
Please help Miss Mousie and donate! All donations are tax deductible, too!
